Momportunities: Become An Online Specialty Store
Type in something you’re looking for in Google and they will give you a long list of online shops which sell that product. Online sales are huge. Selling online also opens up a world of momportunities.
Online stores come in all shapes and sizes. Some offer a potluck of products, while another specializes in only one genre. The opportunities are endless in this category. There is also a lot of information to digest within this topic. So in interest of saving some time while giving you a taste of the potential, I’ll try to cut around the edges some. Starting with store locations.
Where should you sell?
When you think of shopping online, what comes to mind? You probably think of some of those top dawgs in the shopping world: ebay and Amazon. They’re widely known and offer you a medium for getting started. Once your business starts to build, you can always move into your own website later on.
If your specialty is handcrafted, there is a medium for you too. Etsy, known for selling only handcrafted items, has become the place to shop for unique products as well as the place to put up shop when starting a homemade goods business.
Those that want to leap out on a limb can do so by launching on their own website right away. However, this should be done with care. A lot of work goes into setting up the right shopping cart system and making your online store look approachable. The appearance will greatly effect how secure people will feel purchasing from you. If you do go this route, try to set up payments through a PayPal system. It is secure and customers won’t have to worry about where their credit information goes after they buy something from you.
But what should you sell?
If you don’t feel passionate about what you’re doing, it will be a flop. You need that drive for your business to succeed. So you should sell something you feel passionate about. Do you enjoy handcrafting gorgeous pieces of jewelry? Maybe you should set up shop with your jewelry. Here are some other ideas you can draw from:
- Resale.
- Craft Supplies.
- Baby Needs.
- Risque XXX.
- Many people make their leap into business by bringing together all of the great products they have found into one spot. People don’t like shopping around. When they visit your store they will find their favorite brands, as well as some new finds, and you don’t have to produce anything.
- Those who enjoy crafting are always looking for unique pieces and items they can use when they produce something new. If you have access to the right stuff, business will probably go well for you. If you are a crafter, this gives you the opportunity to consider 2 stores. In one you can sell the things you’ve made, in another you can sell unique supplies to other crafters.
- I will warn you, this is a tough category to crack. There are so many baby retailers on the internet, you need something very unique to break into this department.
- Check with the laws in your state first. Be very aware of what is allowed before you consider a business in this category. It can be fun for the right person to pursue, but sales of certain items are not allowed. You need to be aware. You’ll also need to know where you can and cannot accept sales.
More than anything, be resourceful. Consider your life as well as the hobbies you enjoy and you’ll probably find a momportunity in the rough. Just shine it up a little, and ride with it!
