Baby-Proofing Your Office

So you have a wonderful bundle of joy and when you work with your little one in your office, it’s not so bad. Well, at least it’s not so bad until they start crawling and trying to walk, then it gets dangerous. If you’ve already reached that stage, then you have already realized the importance of baby-proofing.
It is amazing how much one little baby can get into, but they can and it’s not always safe. Here are some ideas to help you be prepared:
- If you don’t want it in your baby’s hands, it is time to put it up.
- Put baby-friendly things down low.
- Consider a playpen for part-time use in your office.
- Put away important papers before anything bad can happen.
- It is genuine common sense. Unfortunately your little one will try to grab everything and anything they can get their adorable little fingers on, and that includes your favorite ceramic statues.
However, this does not mean you have to put it away! Put up shelves, make sure they are going to be high enough to keep important things out of the reach of little fingers for at least a few years, and put those items back up.
- Now that we have moved those dangerous, breakable, and valuable items out of the way, put something baby-friendly down low. Set up teddy bears on those tables, or maybe let a rattle sit around. You’re still giving your baby that feeling of joy when they manage to reach that item, while making sure it’s safe for them to do so!
Pulling themselves up into a standing position, as well as learning to walk, is only natural. Rather than discourage it, the toys in those places will only encourage your baby’s natural curiosity.
- You can’t live in your office, and your baby can’t live in a playpen. However, if your little one feels sleepy then a playpen can offer added benefit to your office space. Not only does it offer a safe place to nap while you get some extra work done, the playpen also offers a safe space for your baby to sit for a few minutes.
- Little fingers wander, and your desk is not safe. So the next time you have your little one visiting you while you’re working, file away your papers before they can walk, or should I say crawl, away from you unnoticed.
If you have a filing cabinet, file those papers right away or keep them far enough back on your desk so they can not be reached. If you don’t own a filing cabinet, now is the time to buy one.
