Balancing School Necessities Around Work

I have a Policy Council meeting tonight. As I was thinking about the reading I need to do so I can be somewhat aware of what we’ll be voting on tonight, the topic for this post hit me. As mompreneurs, it’s not unusual to find ourselves having to balance a schedule which keeps us working or handling something that has to do with our child’s schooling. For many women that might be homeschooling or, like in my case, staying active in the public school system.
Unfortunately I ran for Policy Council rep at a point in my life when I was feeling extremely stressed and pushed for time. It kind of put me over the edge and mixing that with all the time I spent working, that led to my vacation last month.
So how do we, as women who wear every hat imaginable, handle all of these responsibilities? For some it just means less work time, for others it might mean less free time. For me, it meant adding a new ball to my juggling act. However, with a little work on creating the ultimate balancing act as well, it all worked out for the best. I’ve met some nice women through Policy Council, I’m adding my voice to what goes on in my daughters school, and my vote counts.
Is there a secret to this balance? No. Sometimes we forget about what is most important when we find ourselves drowning in work and being involved can actually help remind us. Although I have managed to find balance by working more effectively through a system that keeps me pumping out work and breaking at reasonable intervals, that really doesn’t work for everyone.
I know I have a lot of readers who are not moms and more that are men, so I don’t want you to feel left out. How do you maintain balance in your life?
