Momportunities: The Green Irene Eco-Consultant

First, I would like to thank farandsavage for bringing this business opportunity to my attention. I had never heard of Green Irene before farandsavage shared the link with us and it was nice reading about the business through their recruiting website. The opportunity sounds like a good one and they are definitely worth the mention.

If you haven’t gathered from the title, Green Irene is an eco-friendly business based around training consultants on those basics. As an Eco-Consultant, you would need to sell information. The main plan is a $99 green home makeover, a 60 to 90 minute consultation which shares with the customers the different areas which could be improved within their home. By providing these consulting services, it will eventually lead to the sale of products which the customer can use to help improve the eco-friendliness of their home.

Momportunities: Become The Local Avon Lady

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, there is nothing wrong with direct sales if you find the right opportunity for you! With that said, I would like to open up your eyes to the world of Avon.

I haven’t met one person who doesn’t know what Avon is. The brand is widespread and the products are known for quality. Unlike many other opportunities, they don’t require their representatives to have inventory on hand.

Unfortunately the Avon website does not list the cost of becoming a representative, however they do mention briefly on their How Do I Start information page that this opportunity doesn’t cost much more than the price of lipstick. However my lipstick tends to cost only $4, I’m cheap. So the actual cost will depend on the lipstick they are comparing the price to. ;)

Do you think you are right for Avon? Well, that depends on how you feel about their product. You should never sell what you don’t feel passionate about. If you use Avon products and you’re looking to try out a direct sales opportunity, then I think you should give it a try. If you like a product, it won’t be hard for you to promote it.

Scholastic Parent & Child Has Women “Bringing Home The Bacon”

As a part of my work, I spend a lot of time immersed in news. While most of the news I am reading on a daily basis is in the MLM or Franchise categories, I absolutely love following up on the latest mompreneur success or some new invention that was brought to light by a mom. The article I came across tonight is not online, it’s straight from Scholastic’s Parent & Child magazine.

While I usually only offer a quick scan of the content, stopping only when it’s the most relevant to me, a special article on work at home ideas caught my eye. In a way I was less than pleased with what I read, but only because I knew about the opportunities she had shared.

Direct Sales: The Pros and Cons

Published by Angel under Business, Momportunities Edit This

What does Avon, Pampered Chef, Mary Kay, and Tupperware have in common? They are well known and offer a direct sales business opportunity.

Like always, the feelings people have towards opportunities like those will vary from person to person. Some people are hard set against direct sales. These opportunities tend to be lumped in with the Multi-Level Marketing (MLM) category, and, if they earn money off of an individual they have recruited, it generally fits the description pretty well. It is the popularity of those top brands that I named above which helps smooth out the wrinkles in the MLM appearance.

Momportunities: Go From Hobby Knitter/Crocheter To Mompreneur

Published by Angel under Momportunities Edit This

Many people, young and old, enjoy knitting or crocheting. Although some may be better than others, there is one thing they all have in common: a love for the craft.

Sometimes when you are trying to find a way to work from home, that potential business idea is sitting right under your nose. Your hobby, in many cases, can become your business. It may take time and a decent amount of dedication, but eventually people will start to notice your products.

Thankfully there are avenues open to assist crafty individuals as they enter into the business world. If you want to market your handmade products, your first stop should be Etsy. Even if you don’t intend to sell through the site for very long, Etsy is a great starting point.

Momportunities: Become An Online Specialty Store

Published by Angel under Momportunities Edit This

Type in something you’re looking for in Google and they will give you a long list of online shops which sell that product. Online sales are huge. Selling online also opens up a world of momportunities.

Online stores come in all shapes and sizes. Some offer a potluck of products, while another specializes in only one genre. The opportunities are endless in this category. There is also a lot of information to digest within this topic. So in interest of saving some time while giving you a taste of the potential, I’ll try to cut around the edges some. Starting with store locations.

Momportunities: What The Heck Are They?

Published by Angel under Momportunities Edit This

In yesterday’s post, “The Election Is Nearly Over… But Are The Business Opportunities?” I mentioned the word momportunities and thought I might take a moment to explain the meaning behind the word.

Since the first day I started writing here, all of 3 days ago, I was flooded with ideas I would like to implement as we grow. One of those ideas was to post about different business ideas and opportunities. As Mompreneur is a play on words - the mix of Mom and Entrepreneur - I thought it’d be fun to turn any opportunities I write about into momportunities, and a new word has been born.

It may never catch on, it may spark irritation among people. After all, I’ve heard women argue that by calling them mompreneurs they are somehow less than men that are entrepreneurs. So maybe momportunities are somehow less than the opportunities available to men? No.

As parents, we need a flexible schedule. The ultimate momportunity offers the flexibility required, yet gives us the opportunity to either create a business or earn a living from home. Momportunities are ideas or jobs that anyone could take on but, considering we cater to the mompreneur crowd, we are featuring these ideas as something that will be specifically geared towards moms.

For the women who are not looking for an opportunity, or already own a business, don’t worry. We don’t stop at momportunities. As this blog grows we hope to expand on more ideas to help entertain children while we work, stories of success from mompreneurs, advice to cover all areas of work-life balance to home office woes, and much more. You’ll just have to come back and see for yourself!

The Election Is Nearly Over… But Are The Business Opportunities?

Published by Angel under Momportunities Edit This

Lets set aside politics for a moment. For this thought, it’s not about who you want to vote for. This is strictly business. ;)

So strictly business, in fact, that almost every word that comes out of a politicians mouth has become a website and has potentially created some profit along the way. A good example is the infamous “That One” comment which has sprouted That One 2008 and “That One” 08. Both of which give you the option to buy something either by clicking a link to view the store or a photo of what you can purchase is shown on the front page. Once the words “Joe the Plumber” were stated, the real Joe the Plumber became a gold mine. He’s not just unclogging pipes, now you can buy his t-shirt too! The election has created a new niche, 08 Election Biz. However, much like the election, the life of this business niche could either last 4 to 8 years or die out on November 5th.

So what does this have to do with mompreneurs?

I had already considered this election to be unique. After all is said and done, we will either have a female vice president or a black president, both of which are a first. But what makes it mompreneur material is the fact that there are women who have been inspired to become mompreneurs with their own election-based businesses.

It was a “T-Ball Mom” who, inspired by Sarah Palin, created her own business called, LipstickforPitbulls.com. From lipsticks to t-shirts, Michelle Zafiropoulos has found a way to monetize her support of the McCain/Palin political team. She has taken ahold of that spirit which makes women good entrepreneurs and ran with an idea that is bound to be popular while the election is running hot.

I may be young, but I have never witnessed so many people that were as worked up over an election year, like they are this year. Even more so, I have never witnessed so many interesting businesses launch out of political pride.

I think that once the election is over, the door to opportunity is going to be wide open to anyone looking to step in and launch their own business. Could this potentially be the right momportunity for you?
